This is your reminder that taking care of yourself is just as important as taking care of your baby.

Whether you’re still pregnant or entering the newborn trenches, this list was made with all new moms in mind. Postpartum recovery can be overwhelming and really scary. Having the right tools and knowledge will help you to navigate the postpartum period with more ease.

From soothing your body to supporting your mental wellness, these items are must-haves for your post partum healing.

1. Peri Bottle

A peri bottle will be your go-to for cleanliness and care down there. The hospital may give you one, after birth. If they don't, a great recommendation is the Frida Mom. The Frida Mom peri bottle has an angled nozzle for better aim and less discomfort.

2. High-Waisted Postpartum Underwear

For postpartum you’ll want underwear that is soft, stretchy, and supportive. Underwear can either be reusable or you can look into disposable options as well. When picking postpartum underwear, you want to go with either cotton or mesh options that are c-section friendly (if needed). A great option are the Molasus Women's High Waist Cotton Post Partum Briefs linked below (not an affiliate link):

3. Padsicles

Padsicles are a LIFESAVER for surviving postpartum discomfort. You can either DIY or buy pre-made! Padsciles are frozen soothing pads to help relieve swelling and soreness. DIY pads can contain witch hazel and Aloe Vera for soothing comfort. You can also buy reusable padsicles with disposable or washable covers for a more sustainable alternative

4. Nursing Bras

When it comes to nursing, you want to pick a bra that is comfortable and functional. We recommending to avoid anything with underwire and go for soft, breathable fabrics. You also want to find a bra with easy clips or pull-aside access. A good recommendation is the Seamless Nursing Bralette from La Vie En Rose. Maximum comfort and clip access

5. Adult Diapers or Disposable Underwear

Disposable underwear options can be way better and easier than dealing with pads and other products in the first few days. Always Discreet and Frida Mom make postpartum-friendly options.

6. Stool Softener

It is SO important to use stool softener after you give birth. This will help to minimize the discomfort of your first bowel movement during postpartum. This is one you don’t want to skip.

7. Nipple Cream

One of the first pregnancy symptoms I experienced was nipple dryness - and that started far before breastfeeding even occurred. To help cure dry and uncomfortable nipples, it’s best to use a nipple cream. Lanolin or organic versions like Earth Mama are soothing and affordable

8. A Leak Proof Water Bottle or Cup

Hydration is key for recovery, overall wellbeing, and to promote milk production. You will want to pick a cup or bottle that is leak proof and easy to carry around all areas of the house

9. Postpartum Belly Wrap or Support Band

Post partum support bands can help your body recover during the postpartum phase. They can help to limit the movement of abdominal muscles and can help to reduce pain and discomfort. There are various different versions of postpartum belly bands, it is best to find one that is most comfortable for yourself and your needs

10. Snacks

During your postpartum phase you’ll want to ensure that you have easy access to quick and nutritious snacks. Things like protein bars, trail mix, and lactation cookies are great options to have on hand. It is also good to keep snacks in all areas that you will be around with baby. Hungry during a late night feed? Keep a stash of granola bars in your post partum cart

11. Sitz Bath or Herbal Soak

Sitz baths are great for helping heal sore perineums, stitches, or hemorrhoids. A warm herbal sitz bath can help you to relax and wind down. Baths and soaks will help you to maintain comfort while helping your healing journey

12. Haakaa or Manual Pump

While nursing or pumping, you may experience letdown milk on the opposite breast. To keep yourself clean and to avoid any waste, use a Haakaa or manual pump in addition to nursing or pumping. This is a genius, mess-free hack that helps build your freezer stash

13. Cozy Robe + Slippers

To maximize your comfort, you’ll want to ensure that you have loungewear that is cozy and functional. A comfy robe, pajama sets, and slippers. Opt for pajamas or loungewear sets with buttons on the top for easy access

14. Postpartum Journal or App

Many moms will use a postpartum journal or app to help track feedings, emotions, and milestones. Apps and journals can help you to stay on schedule and recognize important patterns when it comes to your babies overall health

15. Support System

Whether it’s your partner, a postpartum doula, online moms’ group, or just a friend who checks in - it is so important to utilize your village. Lean on whoever you can for support and don't be afraid to ask for help

Postpartum is a tough journey. Not only are you navigating life with your baby but you are also healing and helping your body return to normal. Being as prepared as you can will help you to navigate your postpartum journey with ease and comfort.
